Proposal quality checklist

Hook (first 1–2 lines)

• Mentions something specific from the job post
• Not generic (“I am interested in your project”)
• Readable on mobile

Relevance

• Ties your skills to their problem
• Avoids unrelated biography

Proof

• Includes one concrete example, metric, or similar deliverable
• Claims are backed by your profile/resume

Questions + CTA

• At least two thoughtful questions in the letter
• Clear next step (reply, review work, discuss approach)
• No begging language

Format

• Short paragraphs
• About 100–170 words for most jobs
• Plain text (no markdown clutter)

Authenticity

• Sounds like you
• Matches your Upwork profile niche
• No invented experience

Score your draft (0–10)

Give 2 points each for: Hook, Relevance, Proof, Questions, Fit-to-resume.

• 8–10: send
• 5–7: revise
• Below 5: rewrite or skip the job
