How to generate a proposal
The actual steps in ProposalAI: resume or generic mode, paste the job, pick a structure, generate, edit, and copy. The tool does not submit to Upwork.
What you need
A free ProposalAI account. You do not need an Upwork password. We never post the proposal for you.
You can generate up to 3 new proposals per day. Regenerating an existing draft does not use an extra slot.
Steps
- Sign in and open Generate from the sidebar (or start from Job analysis and continue to generate).
- Choose Resume mode if you have an active resume on your account, or Generic mode if you will type a short background yourself.
- Paste the job description (at least a short paragraph). Optionally add the client name and job title.
- Pick a structure: Classic Upwork, Result-Led Hook, Problem-First, or Question-Led Close. These change how the draft is organized, not a promised outcome.
- Optionally open Custom to set hook style, tone, length, proof style, and how many questions to include.
- If the post contains questions, you can extract them and type answers so they are included in the draft.
- Generate, then read the cover letter in the editor. Adjust wording, then copy plain text into Upwork yourself.
After it generates
You will also see a match note, suggested questions, and phrases the tool marked for emphasis. None of that is submitted anywhere until you copy it.
If something looks generic, see [how to improve a generated proposal](/help/how-to-improve-a-generated-proposal).
